“I fell in love with George Barnes at the first note I heard him play in 1938. I was a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. My family and I could hardly wait for Wednesday nights at 8, so we could tune into a national radio show from Chicago called Plantation Party, just to hear ‘Georgie’ Barnes. His playing was hot, sweet, a minute and 15 seconds of pure, clear tone. He was making warm and lovely music, and I was in love.”
“I didn’t have a choice: my mother and father met, fell in love, got married…and, on the morning of their 7th wedding anniversary, I was born! Of course, even if I’d had a choice, I honestly can’t imagine wanting to choose anyone else.”
